Box and Whisker Plot: 👉     Box and whisker plots, sometimes known as box plots, are  a great chart to use when showing the distribution of data points across a selected measure . These charts display ranges within variables measured. 👉   Use box plots, also known as box-and-whisker plots, to show the distribution of values along an axis. 👉   Boxes indicate the middle 50 percent of the data (that is, the middle two quartiles of the data's distribution). 👉   You can configure lines, called  whiskers , to display all points within 1.5 times the interquartile range (in other words, all points within 1.5 times the width of the adjoining box), or all points at the maximum extent of the data, as shown in the following image: Creating Box and Whisker plot: To create a box plot that shows discounts by region and customer segment, follow these steps: Connect to the  Sample - Superstore  data source. Drag the  Segment  dimension to  Columns . Drag the  Discount  measure to  Rows . Drag t

Histogram: A histogram is a chart that displays the shape of a distribution. A histogram looks like a bar chart but groups values for a continuous measure into ranges, or bins. Creating Histogram in Tableau: Connect to the  Sample - Superstore  data source. Drag  Quantity  to  Columns . Click  Show Me  on the toolbar, then select the histogram chart type. Drag  Segment  to  Color . The colors don't show a clear trend. Let's show the percentage of each bar that belongs to each segment. Hold down the Ctrl key and drag the  CNT(Quantity)  field from the  Rows  shelf to  Label . Right-click (Control-click on a Mac) the  CNT(Quantity)  field on the  Marks  card and select  Quick Table Calculation  >  Percent of Total . But we want the percentages to be on a per-bar basis. Right-click the  CNT(Quantity)  field on the  Marks  card again and select  Edit Table Calculation . In the Table Calculation dialog box, change the value of the  Compute Using  field to  Cell . Now we have th

Tableau(Bullet graphs in tableau)

Bullet Graph 👉  A bullet chart is a variation of Bar chart. In this chart, we compare the value of one measure with another measure in the context of finding the variation in the first measure within a range of variations in the second measure. It is like two bars drawn upon one another to indicate their individual values at the same position in the graph. It can be thought of as combining two graphs as one to view a comparative result easily. Creating Bullet Graph Using the Sample-superstore, plan to find the size of profits for the respective sales figures in each Sub-Category. To achieve this objective, following are the steps. Step 1  − Drag and drop the dimension Sub-Category from the data pane into the column shelf. Step 2  − Drag and drop the measures Profit and Sales to the Rows shelf. The following chart appears which shows the two measures as two separate categories of bar charts, each representing the values for sub-categories. Step 3  − Drag the sales measure to the Mark

Tableau(Sparklines in tableau)

Tableau Sparklines Tableau sparklines  are very small line charts, usually drawn without axes or coordinates. It presents the general variation in values trended over time, in a simple and highly condensed way. Tableau sparklines are small enough to be embedded in text. Creating Sparklines in Tableau: To create Tableau Sparklines, Drag Order Date to Columns.  Set it to be Exact Date from the drop down arrow.  Place Product Category on the Rows shelf.  Place Order Quantity after Product Category on Rows.  Hold down the ctrl key, click on Order Date from Columns, and drag a second instance over to the Filter shelf.  Click the drop down arrow and set it to be a range of dates.  Set the range to be 10/1/2011 through 12/31/2011.  Click Ok.  Use the Size shelf on the Marks card to thin your line down.  Remove the axes by right clicking and unchecking “Show Header.”  Right click on the chart itself and click Format.  Then click the borders icon above the Rows tab in date pane at the left.  Re

Tableau(Tree map in tableau)

Tree map: 👉  The treemap functions as  a visualization composed of nested rectangles . These rectangles represent certain categories within a selected dimension and are ordered in a hierarchy, or “tree.” Quantities and patterns can be compared and displayed in a limited chart space. Treemaps represent part to whole relationships. 👉   Tree Maps are primarily used  to display data that is grouped and nested in a hierarchical (or tree-based) structure . Creating a tree map in tableau: Use treemaps to display data in nested rectangles. You use dimensions to define the structure of the treemap, and measures to define the size or color of the individual rectangles. Treemaps are a relatively simple data visualization that can provide insight in a visually attractive format. The basic building blocks for a treemap are as follows: Mark type : Automatic or Square Color : Dimension or Measure Size Measure Label  or  Detail : Dimension(s) To create a treemap that shows aggregated sales totals

Tableau(Scatter plot in tableau)

Scatter Plot: 👉   A scatter chart, also called a scatter plot, is  a chart that shows the relationship between two variables . They are an incredibly powerful chart type, allowing viewers to immediately understand a relationship or trend Creating a Scatter plot in tableau: In Tableau, you create a scatter plot by placing at least one measure on the  Columns  shelf and at least one measure on the  Rows  shelf. If these shelves contain both dimensions and measures, Tableau places the measures as the innermost fields, which means that measures are always to the right of any dimensions that you have also placed on these shelves. The word "innermost" in this case refers to the table structure. Creates Simple Scatter Plot Creates Matrix of Scatter Plots To use scatter plots and trend lines to compare sales to profit, follow these steps: Open the  Sample - Superstore  data source. Drag the  Profit  measure to  Columns . Tableau aggregates the measure as a sum and creates a horizo

Tableau(Dual axis combination charts in tableau)

Dual axis Combination Chart: 👉  Dual axes are useful for analyzing two measures with different scales. To add a measure as a dual axis,  drag the field to the right side of the view and drop it when you see a black dashed line appear . You can also right-click (control-click on Mac) the measure on the Columns or Rows shelf and select Dual Axis. Creating a Dual axis combination charts: 👉    Combination charts are views that use multiple mark types in the same visualization. For example, you may show sum of profit as bars with a line across the bars showing sum of sales. You can also use combination charts to show multiple levels of detail in the same view. To create a Dual axis combination chart, follow the steps below: Open Tableau Desktop and connect to the  Sample - Superstore  data source. Navigate to a new worksheet. From the  Data  pane, drag  Order Date  to the  Columns  shelf. On the Columns shelf, right-click  YEAR(Order Date)  and select  Month . From the  Data  pane, drag

Tableau (Heat maps in tableau)

Heat Map in Tableau: 👉  Heat map is defined as a graphical representation of data using colors to visualize the value of the matrix. In this to represent more common values or higher activities brighter colors basically reddish colors are used and to less common or activity values darker colors are preferred. Heat map is also defined by the name of the shading matrix. Creating a heat map in tableau: Enhance the basic highlight table by setting the size and shape of the table cells to create a heat map. Connect to the  Sample - Superstore  data source. Drag the  Segment  dimension to  Columns . Drag the  Region  and  Sub-Category  dimensions to  Rows , dropping  Sub-Category  to the right of  Region . Drag the  Profit  measure to  Color  on the  Marks  card. Click  Color  on the  Marks  card to display configuration options. In the  Border  drop-down list, select a medium gray color for cell borders, as in the following image: Now it's easier to see the individual cells in the vi

Tableau (highlight tables in tableau)

Image
Highlight Tables 👉   Highlight tables  display data in a text table . Using color, they speed up how you identify the most important numbers within a range of values. These tables also have rows and columns to depict different dimensions. Highlight Tables  The highlight table allows us to use conditional formatting to a view of a normal table. Tableau will automatically apply a color scheme in either endless or stepped array of colors from highest to lowest. It’s great for comparing a field’s values within a row or column. Use highlight tables to match categorical data using color. Highlight tables are often outstanding as they help users quickly spot the foremost interesting values during a table of numbers. In cases where multiple variables are displayed, Measure Values are often used to apply one color scheme to all or any of the values in a table. Unless the variables are very similar, highlighting multiple variables is typically not helpful and can mislead. Creating Highlight t

Creating a Dashboard Using the Sample-superstore, plan to create a dashboard showing the sales and profits for different segments and Sub-Category of products across all the states. To achieve this objective, following are the steps. Step 1  − Create a blank worksheet by using the add worksheet icon located at the bottom of the workbook. Drag the dimension Segment to the columns shelf and the dimension Sub-Category to the Rows Shelf. Drag and drop the measure Sales to the Color shelf and the measure Profit to the Size shelf. This worksheet is referred as the Master worksheet. Right-click and rename this worksheet as  Sales_Profits . The following chart appears. Step 2  − Create another sheet to hold the details of the Sales across the States. For this, drag the dimension State to the Rows shelf and the measure Sales to the Columns shelf as shown in the following screenshot. Next, apply a filter to the State field to arrange the Sales in a descending order. Right-click and rename this
